The Nike Free Trainer 3.0 (Anderson Silva) Men's Training Shoe blends a supportive, dynamic-fitting upper with ultimate flexibility for a barefoot-like training experience.
The laser-cut upper features an extremely flexible yet durable material called Kirum. It delivers a second-skin-like fit that moves with each stride. Larger openings are located where more flexibility is needed, while smaller openings offer greater support during intense workouts.
The Nike Free outsole features deep flex grooves that extend from heel to toe and medial to lateral. Its Diamond Flex design enhances flexibility and multidirectional traction.
The low-to-the-ground design allows for maximum control. The sidewall wraps up the foot to cradle the heel and the midfoot, helping to keep it stable during side-to-side and diagonal movements.
Solid rubber pods at the heel and perimeter of the forefoot feature an aggressive delta-node pattern, providing traction and durability on multiple surfaces.
Nike Free Origins
After learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university's golf course, three of Nike's most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, similar to bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion.
The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot's natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.
