Nike Free Origins

After learning that Stanford athletes had been training barefoot on the university's golf course, three of Nike's most innovative and creative employees set out to develop a shoe that felt natural and weightless, similar to bare feet. In 2002, they examined a group of men and women with pressure-measuring insoles taped to their feet, using high-speed cameras to capture images of each foot in motion.

The team spent eight years studying the biomechanics of shoeless running. The results yielded a profound understanding of the foot's natural landing angle, pressure and toe position, allowing Nike designers to build an unconventional and flexible running shoe from the inside out.

Product Details

  • Asymmetrical lacing system to help reduce pressure over the top ridge of the foot
  • Lugs at the outsole for impact absorption and traction

My favorite so far

I was a long distance runner but now I'm a sprinter in high school and these shoes surprisingly lasted me a whole season of track. I still use them (it's been almost a year now). They're extremely durable and didn't cause me any problems other than tyring to clean them. They were a little big on me so it didn't "fit like a glove" but it didn't matter- they were still quite comfortable. It took a bit of breaking into though. They're also light but didn't seem as light as advertisements or other reviews claimed- they hyped up the "light weight/ barefoot running" blabber too much so my expectations were too high. Regardless, these are my favorite running shoes that came with a lot of compliemtns! Shoes outside of Nike usually gave me problems with my calves and shins. I should've bought another pair but instead I'm trying the Nike Free 4.0 V2 for the next season starting soon! Hoping for the best.

Small in size, comfortable.

Haven´t used them yet since we have snow at the time, but they fit comfortably. Had to change for a bigger size because they run short in lengh, but are wide in with. Normally I use size 39, changed to 40 to allow room for running socks and warm feet. Could have had a size between if avaliable. To comparision I bought another style, a Nike free training shoe, which I had to change to a smaller size than usual. Though I have narrow feet and these are wide, I manage to make them fit nicely tightening the laces.
